What
we need is a fresh look at the pros and cons of new versus pre-owned when
purchasing a yacht. A short check list to put things into perspecti=
ve
would be helpful. Each of us should spend our yachting dollars
wisely. We work hard for our money and deserve to enjoy real value =
when
investing in our next yacht. Massey has been in the yacht business =
in
Manatee County since 1977, thirty years. We have an additional mari=
na
dealership location in St. Petersburg. We have sold, surveyed, outfitted =
and
delivered over 3500 new and pre-owned yachts worth more than 35 million
dollars. Hopefully we have learned enough over the years that sharing our
knowledge with you will help answer the age old question, New or
Pre-Owned. Remember there is no single correct answer to this
question. All yacht purchases involve compromises. You know b=
est
what is really important to you and how your priorities impact your yacht=
ing
plans. Think about the following questions, and then give us a
call. We are always available to discuss your yachting plans,
priorities, budgets, needs and desires. We are patient and good
listeners. There is a good chance we can help solidify your thinkin=
g,
assist you in finding the right boat for your needs and save you a great =
deal
of money. It only takes a phone call to get the ball rolling. =
- Have
you owned yachts before or is this your first one
- How
long have you been yachting
- How
will you use your yacht-local cruising or long distance offshore
voyaging
- Do
you prefer power or sail
- How
did you arrive at your yacht purchase budget-is it based on your
purchase capacity, a pre purchase loan approval or extensive price
research
- Do
you have substantial experience in outfitting and maintaining yachts=
- Would
you like a professional yacht service team to help outfit your yacht=
- Do
you prefer a factory warranty, an extended warranty and dealer suppo=
rt
or do you prefer to do everything yourself
- Are
you planning to pay cash or finance your next yacht
- Do
you know there are tax advantages to financing yachts
- Have
you taken advantage of the Massey Yacht Finance Department’s f=
ree
pre-purchase marine loan qualification and approval
- Realistically
how long will you likely own your next yacht
- How
long have you owned each of your yachts in the past
- Would
you like your yacht to produce income locally in a quality charter f=
leet
when you are not using it-allow it to help pay for itself
- Does
the idea of fractional ownership appeal to you
The
real cost of owning yacht is rarely the price you pay for it. For
example if you purchase and finance a $200,000 yacht and keep it five yea=
rs,
the national average, you don’t actually pay $200,000 for that
yacht. The actual yacht cost is five years worth of mortgage paymen=
ts,
maintenance, insurance and dockage expenses, not $200,000. This is very
similar to purchasing a home. Most purchasers don’t actually =
pay
cash for their homes because it’s historically smarter to finance i=
t.
There are tax advantages available and your cash remains liquid and
available for other opportunities. Yachts are a lot like homes in this
regard. Our sales team has extensive experience and is very
professional. They are available to discuss your yachting plans. Ta=
ke
advantage of our years of experience and knowledge. We even have a
computer model that will help you compare the benefits of new versus
pre-owned. All you need to do is call us. We can help you make
the best choice, that’s what we are here for.
